Harrah’s Joliet Casino

Chicagoland’s first Las Vegas style casino is at Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel was one of the most challenging electrical design projects one could imagine. Harrah’s replaced their two existing riverboat casinos with a new 40,000 square foot floating casino floor, however, all the support areas are land based. The bars, lounges, money cages, bank, security, kitchen, VIP lounge, and Porte Cochere were built in a horseshoe around the existing riverboats.

Having multiple building locations provided its own set of unique complexities on this project. However there was one other major obstacle for the Harrah’s team to address…

Because the casino was built on two barges several miles down the river in Cook County then rejoined at their permanent dock in Joliet, two different local electrical unions had to be utilized; IBEW Local 176 in Joliet and IBEW Local 134 in Cook County.

Fortunately for our friends at Harrah’s Casino, Block Electric was able to provide two ideal teams to address all of their electrical design needs. Block Electric crews worked around the clock to assure successful delivery – and the gambling was never interrupted during construction. All this was accomplished in an extremely intensive twelve-month schedule.
